We are YorkU undergrads standing in solidarity with our educators, mentors, and friends in units 1 and 3 of CUPE 3903. We are rallied here today to protest the Senate meeting that will decide if more classes are to be opened, or remain open. Over 4500 undergrads have signed a petition to the York Senate to not open classes (bit.ly/undergrad3903petition). We will not cross the picket lines and betray our TAs and colleagues!
“We are here outside the Senate building, to demand that there should be no class unless and fair contract with CUPE 3903 is reached. York Administration should go back to the bargaining table immediately!” says Aicha Coulibaly, undergraduate student in communications at York University.
We call on the university to respect the dignity and resolve of students and workers, and not resume classes, as doing so would cause severe disruption and conflict, and create an unequal standard of education which violates and compromises our academic integrity. What classes continue to be opened, should be suspended.
